1797 Liberty cap Half Cent Penny - Lettered Edge
One major variety of the 1797 Liberty Cap Half Cent (Penny) features the standard centered liberty head as depicted above and also has a lettered edge around the coin. There are no errors and the head is centered normally (unlike other varieties where it is aligned lower). This coin also featured lettered on the edge of the coin - which is rarer and more valuable than a coin with a plain smooth edge. The words on the edge of the coin read: "TWO HUNDRED FOR A DOLLAR".
