What This Coin Looks Like (Obverse, Reverse, Mint Mark Location, Special Features, etc.):
1859 Transitional Pattern Seated Liberty Dime - Reverse of 1860 - Obverse of 1859
This is a rare Transitional Pattern of the 1859 Seated Liberty Dime. The obverse of this coin features the standard 1859 design. Although the reverse of this coin depicts the newer style design that would be used on the reverse of the 1860 dimes. What is most notable is the total absence of the motto and words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" on the coin. The motto was switched from the back of the coin to the front of the coin in 1860.
