1836 Capped Bust Half Dollar - Beaded Border on Reverse
Another major variety of the 1836 Capped Bust Half Dollar features a beaded border on the reverse of the coin. The normal border denticles (design bumps along the rim of the coin) extend all the way to the outer rim and edge of the coin. Although in the beaded border variety - the outer rim is raised and the denticles only extend to the raised portion of the rim and the border then remains flat and smooth until it reaches the edge of the coin - giving the border a "beaded" appearance.
