There were 2 major varieties of the 1873 $3 gold Indian princess coin. This variety features an "Open 3" in the date on the reverse of the coin. There is wider vertical spacing between the top and bottom ends of the number "3" in the 1873 date. This variety is a bit rarer than the "Closed 3" variety.
