1806 Round 6 - Turban Head $5 Gold Half Eagle - Five Dollars
There were two major varieties of the 1806 $5 Gold Turban Head Half Eagle. One variety is the "Round 6"- also known as the "Knobbed 6" variety (depicted above) - which features a rounded tip on the top of the number "6" in the 1806 date. The other major variety has a pointed tip on the "6". There are also two other major differences between the varieties to help distinguish them. All coins of the Pointed 6 variety also have 8x5 stars on the obverse of the coin (meaning 8 stars on the left and 5 stars on the right). All coins of the Round 6 have 7x6 stars (7 stars on the left side and 6 stars on the right side).
