Although not legal tender, the new copper round is based on a very old 25 cent piece known as the Standing Liberty quarter. Made from 90% silver and 10% copper, the Standing Liberty quarter was first minted in 1916 when it replaced the Barber Quarter and continued to be minted until 1930.
