USA Coin Book Item ID Number:
AU - hairlines, reverse rim ding
This is a high quality coin which was circulated just enough to soften the detail on the points of highest relief but shows little wearing of the design itself.
This specimen shows a level of detail similar to coins slabbed in the mid-AU range. The stars on the obverse are sharp and well-defined, Liberty's hair band, the eagle's every feather and every bar on both shields is distinct.
It has the usual bag marks along with the telltale hairlines of an early polishing as seems to be quite common - apparent to anyone after browsing the auctions for this series and noting all the "Details" coins!
The reverse has one hard rim ding (though it looks more like a file/knife test by an old bullion buyer) at about 1:00 and a light bump at about 4:00.
