1870-CC NGC VG $5 half eagle ***EXTREMELY RARE*** Low Population & THE CC KEY! this is a date that is very difficult to find in any grade, period. of the original mintage of 7,675 very few have survived and it is considered extremely scarce in any condition and downright rare in upper grades, usually selling for multiples of book value when offered. experts agree that there are less than 100 known to exist, but in reality it is more likely closer to 75. in fact, if there was one thing that most experts would agree on it is that this is the rarest Carson City issue, hands down. with the outflow from old collections has come a flood of scarcer issues from the liberty half eagle series onto the market so this is a great opportunity to pick up what is the rarest and most popular Carson City half eagle ever made. and don't fret too much about the filing mentioned on the label- although it is not hard to see if you know where it is, it didn't bother us in the least, we were just happy to finally fill that empty hole in our set with a decent looking piece. we wanted to mention though that the coin is mounted on a slight angle so that light doesn't hit the area of the filing, preventing it from standing out- in hand at arm's length it really isn't that obvious. other than this, the coin is very presentable although the coin may have been cleaned long ago. the coin has a decent straw gold color as would be expected for a well circulated piece and there is a lot of detail to justify the grade. just how rare is it? NGC has certified only 6 pieces in this grade and just 43 pieces in all grades combined in their entire 30 years in the grading business and many of those were re-submissions fishing for a higher grade! contrast these numbers to the 4,465 1889-CC or 2,911 1893-S Morgan Dollars and you'll begin to see how undervalued this really is. put these numbers and the Carson City mint's almost mystical popularity up against any gem BU 1909-S VDB cent, 1916-D dime or 1916 quarter for relative rarity and sheer value. throw the price guides away on this one- it is rarely found in affordable grades so bragging rights are payable in blood, sweat and dollars so this date always sells for large premiums over book. the NGC online price guide lists a problem free specimen in this grade at $8,900.00 and the PCGS price guide lists it at just over that number. please see the photos- they are of the exact coin the buyer will receive. just try to find another one.

QUESTIONS? You can reach me at kpaypal@ktvs.net

Why buy our extra coins for your collection? Simple- because we are collectors looking for beautiful high quality coins for our collection, not dealers looking for a quick buck here on the internet's biggest dealer dumping grounds. If it wasn't above average, top of grade or downright undergraded, we didn't buy it. If it was rare but unattractive and we're now selling it, we will describe it as such, otherwise you can expect a nice eye appealing coin for your money and a money back guaranty that you'll love it as much as we did. We love this hobby and want you to enjoy it as much as we have all these years too!

Policy: Payment due upon purchase. Please do not buy if you don't intend to pay immediately. If you need more time or would like to arrange a lay-away, we would be happy to work with you. 3 day return privilege (item must be postmarked for return within 3 business days after it arrives in your box), buyer pay return postage unless we made a mistake in the listing. (Grades are nothing but opinions no matter who is offering the grade. Grading differences are not considered mistakes, please see the photos and put your own grade on it before buying.)
