1872 AU-BU $5 gold half eagle, RARE 1,660 mintage, 50-65 KNOWN, nice coin, see photos and feel free to ask any questions.

this is a very attractive higher end AU that has bright original semi-prooflike mint luster, nearly full prooflike in fact, and beautiful honey gold color. since this issue was so small, a large percentage of the mintage are brightly prooflike, but since many were used and the surfaces worn, not many exist in this condition today, less than a dozen likely, based on population reports and researchers. the PCGS website says there are only 50 to 65 known to exist, in all grades combined, in the entire world. this is a VERY RARE date with a super low original mintage of only 1,660 and super low population numbers to match, two good reasons to sock it away or add it to your collection. the strike is nearly full and the eye appeal is outstanding. there are no physical signs of a cleaning and the only thing worth mentioning that might bother a potential collector is a tiny hairline scratch at the rim below the denticles at 11 o'clock on the obverse. other than that, this is an outstanding example of the issue and nearing the ten thousand dollar range as to value in this grade. at the price we're asking for this lot you may never get a chance to buy this date in this quality. just how rare is this? well, PCGS's online population guide shows that they have graded only 27 pieces in all grades combined in their entire thirty years in the grading business, and NGC has graded even less! experts agree that there are less than 65 known to exist, in all grades, in the entire world- stack that up against any 'common' 1909-S VDB gem cent, 1916-D dime or 1916 quarter. SUPER RARE RARE RARE.

Why buy our raw coins for your collection? Simple- because we are collectors looking for beautiful high quality coins for our collection, not dealers looking for a quick buck. If it wasn't nice enough to fit in with our high quality set, we didn't buy it. If it was so rare that we filled a hole in the set with an unattractive piece and we're now selling it, we will describe it as such, otherwise you can expect a nice eye appealing coin for your money and a money back guaranty (we don't ask for a restock fee) that you'll love it as much as we did. We love this hobby and want you to enjoy it as much as we have all these years!

Policy: Payment due upon purchase. Please do not buy if you don't intend to pay immediately. If you need more time or would like to arrange a lay-away, we would be happy to work with you. 7 day return privilege (item must be postmarked for return within 7 days after it arrives in your box), buyer pay return postage unless we made a mistake in the listing. (Grades are nothing but opinions no matter who is offering the grade. Grading differences are not considered mistakes, please see the photos and put your own grade on it before buying.) Any coin removed from our sealed holder is considered sold and not returnable.
