1876 NGC AU53 Liberty half eagle $5 gold -RARE- 1,432 minted, ONLY 40 to 50 KNOWN to exist. now here's a super rare date with a miniscule mintage of only 1,432 and very low population numbers, not to mention it is above average for the grade, three great reasons to sock it away or add it to your collection. no problems and nice looking piece too with straw gold color and nearly full semi-prooflike luster. not quite as bright as the photos show it. these low mintage dates are beginning to gain the respect they deserve as true rarities because they circulated so widely that there are very few left, and what is left is not in very good condition compared to other series. we've taken what we could find and then upgraded as better pieces presented themselves, it's the only way to fill a lot of holes in the set. this piece was recently replaced in my date set with an AU58 76-S so grab this while you have the chance- they are impossible to find in any grade. NGC has graded only 4 in this grade and only 26 in all grades combined. PCGS has graded 2 in this grade and 26 in all grades combined over their entire thirty years in the grading business. the expert concensus is that there are only 40 to 50 known to exist, in all grades, in the entire world- stack that up against any 'common' 1909-S VDB gem cent, 1916-D dime or even 1893-S Morgan! please see the photos for details and any issues that might bother you. yes, it is priced above the price guides, but they don't sell often enough for the price guides to be accurate or up to date. this is a date that you won't find discounted, IF you find one that is affordable! a nice piece to fill that empty hole in your set. just try to find another one...
