This Morgan dollar was struck at the fabled Carson City Mint with fresh silver from the famous Comstock Load (the largest silver hoard ever discovered in America). The Carson City Mint struck Morgan dollars from 1878 to 1885, and again from 1889 through 1893. The 13 years of production at the Carson City Mint amassed 1.84 % of all Morgan dollars ever made! Thus, they have become highly collectible coins.
This particular Morgan dollar was part of the GSA (General Services Administration) sale held by the Treasury Department in the early 1970’s. The special presentation validates the pedigree of the coin.
This GSA Carson City Mint Morgan dollar is in Uncirculated condition. It has been held in a United States vault since the day it was struck, never being released into circulation.
