Here is an 1892 Indian Cent which has uniform atractive light milk chocolate color over the entire coin except for a tiny amount of black verdigris (not an active spot) atop the second feather. This coin has a minimal amount of contact marks and it even has Two & One Half Diamonds on the ribbon. The tops of the feathers show only light wear and are otherwise well defined. From the top of the ribbon the first and fourth diamonds are full and the third one shows half detail. All of these factors combined would would seem to indicate an Extra Fine coin. In reality this is one of those XF Indians that looks so XF at first glance until you loupe the coin and then yeh but. The yeh but in this case, and please read very closely if your are just learning how to grade Indian Cents, is the ribbon of diamonds merging with the bottom hair color. Anytime you see this you are looking at a VF coin. It might very well be Choice Very Fine as this coin certainly is but it should never grade XF. (Stock #01c1892130 LZGRXV)
