This 1895-S Morgan Dollar in Choice Almost Uncirculated is certified as such (AU-55) by NGC one of the premier and most trusted grading services in the entire world. Being the KEY DATE that this 1895-S is it will truly be a capstone for any collector's Morgan Dollar Set. Remember that although 1895-S has a similar mintage to 1895-O in that both are just short of a half a million, the 1895-S is a astronomically much tougher coin to locate that the 1895-O. Numismatic research indicates that the most probable cause of this is that most of the 1895-S dollars probably were mothballed in mint vaults right after they were minted and then they sat there. Then Uncle Sam decided to help John Bull (Great Britain) cover a shortage of silver coins in British India. This led to millions of stockpiled Morgan Dollars getting consigned to Helen Smelter. So most of the 1895-S dollars were melted. Then when you look at what's out there to buy you notice quickly that this date usually doesn't come very nice. Most are either cleaned or covered with bag marks. None of those problems are exhibited on this coin. Miss Liberty's cheek is remarkably clean for any Morgan Dollar let alone an 1895-S. A coin this nice only comes around once every few years so don't delay on this one!
