Here is another very tough to find Barber Half Dollar with a mintage of less than three quarter of a million: a 1905 in grade Vg-8+. A full "TY," the left half of "L," and the top halves of "I" and "R" show in "LIBERTY" on the obverse along with a FULL MOTTO on the reverse ribbon. This is a very strong solid coin with eye appeal and an original patina. What I think keeps this coin out of Vg-10 are some light contact marks on the obverse and the noticeable but not serious one on the neck and the fact that shield, the eagle's wings, and Miss Liberty's eye really do not show any technicals of grade Fine (any coin graded a choice of a word grade such as Vg-10, F-15, Vf-30, and Xf-45 should meet some technicals of the next higher word grade). The most important thing to remember here is that the next full grade up from Vg-8 is F-12 and at that grade the 1905 triples and that is IF you can find one. If you are putting together a low grade set of Barber Half Dollars this is not an opportunity to let sail by you. (Stock #1905108LJBPBT)
