The following is reprinted (with permission) from "The Complete Guide To Certified Barber Coinage" by David & John Feigenbaum:
"The Barber dime series consists of 74 regular issues, plus the ultra-rare 1894-S and two major varieties (1893/2-P and 1905-O micro-O). Mint state Barber dimes tend to cost less than Barber quarters or halves and the set's affordability makes it popular."
"A total of 16,918 Barber dimes have been certified by PCGS and NGC in mint state. This compares with 15,315 Barber quarters and 9,636 Barber halves. There were 504 million Barber dimes made, compared with a total production of only 264 million Barber quarters."
"The 1894-S is one of America's true rarities, with 24 made and only nine specimens currently accounted for. This issue is rated R8 in mint state. The finest of these recently sold for $825,000. 1905-O micro-O is also rated R8. Three dates of the series are rated R6, 12 are R5, 10 are R4, 14 are R3, 13 are R2 and 23 are R1."
"There were 8,464 mint state Barber dimes certified in August 1990, when "The Complete Guide to Barber Dimes" was published. This means that approximately 900 mint state dimes have been added to the population reports each year since then."
"Completing a mint state Barber dime set can be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. However, patience and perseverance will be necessary. We wish you luck with this endeavor."
