What This Coin Looks Like (Obverse, Reverse, Mint Mark Location, Special Features, etc.):
1998 S Silver Matte Finish Kennedy Half Dollar Proof
The US Mint produced a very special 1998 S Kennedy Silver Half Dollar Proof with a frosted Matte Finish. This is an extremely rare and valuable coin with only 62000 of them minted. Typically proof coins from the San Francisco mint at this time had the standard mirror-like surface. This coin is also a proof coin but the entire surface has a frosted matte finish surface. This special edition of the Half Dollar came with the Commemorative 1998 Kennedy Collectors Set which was only available during a 6 week window from January 2nd until February 13 1998 - and was originally priced at $59.95. The half dollar itself was priced at $29.95 excluding the silver dollar (valued at $30) that came with the set. This rare matte finish Kennedy half dollar is now worth many times it's original value.
