There were a few major varieties of the 1798 $5 Gold Turban Head Half Eagle. This variety features a Large "8" in the 1798 date and 13 stars on the reverse. There were two major varieties of the 1798 date on the obverse of the coin. One variety had the Small "8" and the other had a Large "8". The Large "8" is noticeably wider.
