1798 Draped Bust Silver Dollar Varieties - Difference and Comparison
There were a large number of varieties of the 1798 Draped Bust Silver Dollar - many are not listed here except for the main ones. The varieties can largely be classified first as having a Knob 9 or Pointed 9 in the 1798 date. One variety features a knob on the lower curl of the 9 and the other variety features a pointed end with no knob. The difference between the Knob 9 vs Pointed 9 is depicted above in the example comparison image of the coins.

Both the Knob 9 and Pointed 9 varieties can be classified even further by the number of vertical stripes or lines in each band within the eagle's shield on the reverse of the coin.
