What This Coin Looks Like (Obverse, Reverse, Mint Mark Location, Special Features, etc.):
1866 With Motto - Liberty Head $10 Gold Eagle - Ten Dollars
One major variety is the 1866 $10 Liberty Head Gold Eagle with the motto on the reverse - struck in Philadelphia. This is the newer design which featured the addition of the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" on the reverse of the coin above the eagle. This would be the design used in all future years of this coin type. The "No Motto" variety was not struck in Philadelphia during 1866.
