♚Just 1,200 were minted!!!♚ This choice specimen is free of the severe problems that plague this vastly undervalued "Superkey" even in "problem free" slabs. Many if not most tallied in the population reports are resubmissions or crossovers of the same coins. We doubt that more than 400 UNIQUE examples survive (an actual extrapolation).
Unlike 90% of the 1836 Reeded Edge halves in "problem-free" slabs, this choice piece is free of severe damage, heavy doctoring, and/or other problems.
"Details" examples are even worse because only one problem is noted by NGC or PCGS, even though they usually have other major flaws that would not even be noticed by non-experts, such as cleaning, environmental damage, mechanical smoothing, fake toning, and/or re-engraving. Thus, "Details" coins are almost never the bargains that they appear to be, which is why we rarely buy them.
