1878 NGC MS63 $5 gold half eagle *SCARCE* Pop only 19, ONLY 20 GRADED HIGHER
another one at the top of the grade, PQ all the way. we personally believe that some of these old holder coins are graded much more conservatively than today's more liberal market grading and it would likely upgrade. 1878 Philly half eagles in MS63 and above are very scarce and not often offered. there are none listed on ebay at the time I posted this, and actually NO mint state 1878 Philadelphia issues at all. please forgive the poor photos, this is a very pretty piece with beautiful little lady has fully original bright mint bloom luster and outstanding eye appeal, so nice that it fits in and holds it's own with my MS64-MS65 half eagle set. it is strongly struck to boot, this piece has it all. if you love strike, luster and eye appeal all rolled into one, this is the coin for you at any price. a real sleeper, and worthy of a shot at a higher grade since the TPG's graded more conservatively back in those days.
