1879-CC NGC AU half eagle $5 gold *VERY SCARCE with lots of luster & good eye appeal* here's another fantasticly scarce Carson City issue, one that I found very difficult to find in upper grades and unmolested! while it has been wiped in the past, what a beauty she is with nearly full semi prooflike mint luster and light honey gold color. at arm's length it looks like a top quality AU until you put it under a very bright light, then you can see some fine hairlines in the field. a really nice mid-grade AU. finding an eye appealing piece took years and we settled for this one because it was eye appealing and more than worthy of our set. this is a rather scarce issue despite it's attractive price level. NGC has graded only 70 in all AU grades combined and there are only 162 pieces graded in all grades combined in NGC's 30 years in the grading business and many of those are resubmissions fishing for a higher grade and profit to the submitters. stack these numbers and the Carson City popularity up against any 1916-D dime or gem BU 1909-S VDB cent for relative rarity and sheer value. please see the photos- they are of the exact coin the buyer will receive. if you think the price is a bit higher than you're willing to pay, please make an offer. we may just make you a happy camper, you never know until you try...
