I found this coin in the late seventies. I put it in a folder. It stayed there until I sent it to John Wexler to identify what had happened to the penny. Mr. Wexler identified it as a 1977 D Lincoln cent obverse error known as a brockage error or capped die error. He saw it as a very late stage capped die error. A copy of his letter verifying his findings is in the photo section. I will send this letter with the coin to the buyer.
