Black Beauty Jefferson Nickel is a mint error described as an Improperly Annealed Sintered Planchet (sintering at neck and coloring are the most obvious signs).
In 1959 the Mint accidentally sintered a large group of Jefferson nickels in the oven during the annealing process and these became known to collectors as "Black Beauty".
The color is a gunmetal gray to black.
This is one of just a few Jefferson error coins that is highly collectable.
