Rare Ancient Lydia 200 to 133 BC Hercules Coin- From Sardes, The Oldest Mint In The World.
Year: Hellenistic period, approximately 200 to 133 BC
Minted at Sardes in Lydia (Turkey), a region universally recognized as the birthplace of coinage. Lydia was the first civilization to produce true coins, this coin belongs to the same Lydian minting tradition that originated the world’s earliest coins. This mint location laid the foundation for all later Greek and Roman coinage, making it to one of the oldest and most influential coin-producing regions in history.
Obverse: a laureate head of Hercules, wearing the lion-skin headdress associated with his defeat of the Nemean Lion, symbolizing strength and heroism.
Reverse: the god Apollo standing, holding a bird and a laurel branch, enclosed within a laurel wreath.
Well preserved in a special collectors presentation framed case. Would be a great addition to any collection. The frame itself has a tiny bit of wear tear on the back side, as shown.
