Item Description
Large Date, Small Letters. Choice Very Fine, original with no damage from circulation. Details equivalent to what will normally certify VF-30 or perhaps 35. The dark streak across the Obverse is not toning per se, but actually an unusual planchet flaw. Apparently the planchet stock used had an incomplete alloy mix at the surface, creating a slightly different composition than the standard 90% Silver through that portion. When drawn through the planchet rollers, this "smeared" into an area that toned slightly differently over the near 200 years since struck. There are some very light "ticks" on the raised portions of the rim at either end, the left hand side of which is shown in the enlarged images, minor roughness created when the planchet was cut. A shame in a way as the coin is otherwise near "perfect" for the grade. Still worthy as a decent mid grade example of the Type, discounted a bit accordingly. Free shipping, a close to $10 value at my current actual cost.
