1842 NGC VF35 $5 gold **VERY RARE** Pop 1, ONLY 22 in ALL grades, looks XF

can you say ORIGINAL? ok, here's one of the biggest sleepers in the entire series. throw away the price guides- this coin trades so inoften that the price guides don't update often, and I can tell you these can't be had at twice what the price guides say unless they have serious problems or are just plain ugly. the 1842 is difficult to find in ANY condition and if a nice AU is located, it will be multiples of the cost of this piece. why they graded this one only 35 when many 40's don't have the detail this one does is beyond me, but if you look at the detail in the arrows and neck of the eagle on the rev and the curls over the forehead on the obv you can see it is well detailed and could have just as easily graded 40. for dyed in the wool collectors like me, it's just an opinion- all that matters is what it looks like and this piece is as original as the day it was put away 150 years or so ago, a beauty that would please even the pickiest collector- I know, I am one. of an original mintage of 27,578, PCGS and NGC show verrrrrrry few graded, with many of them re-submissions so this date is scarcer than even the guides show. how rare is it? NGC has graded only 1 in this grade and only 22 in ALL grades combined. stack that up against any 'common' 1909-S VDB gem cent, 1916-D dime or even 1893-S Morgan! a great opportunity to pick up one of the rarest sleepers in American numismatics.

Why buy our extra coins for your collection? Simple- because we are collectors looking for beautiful high quality coins for our collection, not dealers looking for a quick buck here on the internet's biggest dealer dumping grounds. If it wasn't above average, top of grade or downright undergraded, we didn't buy it. If it was rare but has problems and we're now selling it, we will describe it as such, otherwise you can expect a nice eye appealing coin for your money and a money back guaranty that you'll love it as much as we did. We love this hobby and want you to enjoy it as much as we have all these years too!

Policy: Payment due upon purchase. Please do not buy if you don't intend to pay immediately. If you need more time or would like to arrange a lay-away, we would be happy to work with you. 3 day return privilege (item must be postmarked for return within 3 business days after it arrives in your box), buyer pay return postage unless we made a mistake in the listing. (Grades are nothing but opinions no matter who is offering the grade. Grading differences are not considered mistakes, please see the photos and put your own grade on it before buying.) Any coin removed from our sealed holder is considered sold and not returnable.
