A very original Gem Uncirculated example of the first Small U. S. Cent struck in Bronze. This also shows the wide variation in color possible on early Bronze Cents, as at first glance this appears to be Copper Nickel based upon the overall color of the Obverse. The Reverse shows a centered blue-green toned area, sure sign that this spent quite some time in a coin folder, or possibly an even older "coin board", such as were used in the 1930's prior to Whitman coming out with their folder line. This is also an example of Snow-11, the so-called "lathe lines" variety. There are a series of raised thin parallel lines on Liberty's face, caused by transfer from the die blank when the die was produced. Rick Snow has supposed that the most likely cause was a very roughly lathed blank, probably not polished or ground prior to hubbing, and the lines were basically pushed down into the center recess of the die. This is a little later die state, with the lines a bit less obvious, but they can best be seen at the bottom of Liberty's jaw and beneath her ear. Snow was recently offering an Earlier Die State example in this same grade for a low four figure price - as this is less obvious due to the later die state, not so much of a premium attached to this example. However, the coin stands on it's own for what it is, a very cool example of the first Bronze Cent. Please note that due to higher value, depending upon delivery address this may require Registered Mail shipping, which is slower delivery time. Please take this into account prior to considering a purchase.

This seller has enabled "Manual Invoice Approval" on their account. This means that after you complete checkout, you will NOT be automatically redirected to PayPal (if applicable) and will not be able to complete payment immediately. Instead, the seller will review the invoice and may, or may not, add or subtract additional charges, as explained in their policies and/or listing description. When the invoice is updated and approved by the seller, you will receive an automated email notification later, and you will be able to pay the updated invoice as you would normally.
All checks must clear prior to payment of purchase, which may take up to 12 Business days. IF YOU CHOOSE TO PURCHASE MULTIPLE ITEMS, PLEASE WAIT FOR AN INVOICE PRIOR TO PAYMENT. I combine all shipping charges to the minimum necessary to get purchases to the customer. Please be aware that the USPS has recently increased postage for package shipments and Insurance - $7-$9 for shipping may look like a lot, but it barely covers my actual cost. If you have any questions, just ask.
