1871 Shield Nickel, a tough date that seems to always be on someone's want list. It is my opinion that this is mostly likely a Proof striking - this is based upon the strike and comparison with various acknowledged Proof coins in certified holders I reviewed. No die cracks or other common signs of a business strike Shield Nickel such as planchet issues, etc. However the surfaces do not show obvious mirrors (nor does the edge) and it does not have a "proof" look. Some of this may be the toning on the surface. This came out of an old vinyl flip and shows a slightly hazy light gray color with some reddish undertones, likely due to exposure to PVC in the flip over time (there is NO PVC on the coin now). I would have to assume that this would be considered lightly "impaired" by a grading service, given as snotty they are right now, however certainly still worthy as a high grade example for an album set. Sold Net based upon my cost as the equivalent of an average Proof 1871 Nickel in the PR-62/63 grade range. If you can determine this to be a Business strike, the upside is considerable. Please note that due to value this will require shipping with Signature Confirmation, hence the S&H shown.

This seller has enabled "Manual Invoice Approval" on their account. This means that after you complete checkout, you will NOT be automatically redirected to PayPal (if applicable) and will not be able to complete payment immediately. Instead, the seller will review the invoice and may, or may not, add or subtract additional charges, as explained in their policies and/or listing description. When the invoice is updated and approved by the seller, you will receive an automated email notification later, and you will be able to pay the updated invoice as you would normally.
All checks must clear prior to payment of purchase, which may take up to 12 Business days. IF YOU CHOOSE TO PURCHASE MULTIPLE ITEMS, PLEASE WAIT FOR AN INVOICE PRIOR TO PAYMENT. I combine all shipping charges to the minimum necessary to get purchases to the customer. Please be aware that the USPS has recently increased postage for package shipments and Insurance - $7-$9 for shipping may look like a lot, but it barely covers my actual cost. If you have any questions, just ask.
