1877 Indian Head Cent PCGS VG Details Damage - Key Date Of The Series

This listing is for an 1877 Indian Head Cent graded VG Details, Damage, by PCGS.

The damage is surface scrapes and nicks as can be seen in the photos. Otherwise, the coin sports a very attractive, purely original skin and great color and solid eye appeal with full rims.

Obviously this is THE Undisputed Key to the Indian Head Cent Series, and a coin that is always in high demand. What amazes me is how many coins I see on eBay that are selling or have recently sold raw. Of those, with my 30 second cursory look, I spotted 3 obvious counterfeits with bids of $1000 or more. I also saw an auction 3 weeks ago that ended up closing over $2400 for a very obvious counterfeit. Very sad.

I have reported fakes in the past but 99% of the time I get a report back thanking me for taking the time to submit, but that it has been checked out and confirmed nothing is wrong and the auction was allowed to run.

PSA: If you're going to buy an expensive, key date coin, unless you are 100% confident in your own ability to detect counterfeit from genuine (and keep in mind, as technology progresses, the counterfeits are getting more and more sophisticated), you would be doing yourself a disservice to buy anything other than one certified by PCGS, NGC or ANACS. Caveat Emptor.
