Souvenir “box dollar” or photo locket, aka an “opium locket”. Actually meant for insertion of a small photograph of a loved one, for presentation. Produced for the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition at Chicago, maker unknown but similar to other similar pieces produced in Germany (in this case however almost certainly made in the U. S.) 38mm, Sterling Silver, listed in Jeff Shevlin’s So Called Dollar reference (Vol. 1) as SH 6-175. Similar to Eglit-92 however no top loop. Also shown as Starlust ST-eg-92A, however some confusion as to size. Eglit does not show a size; Starlust shows 50mm for the looped locket (E-92). Choice Almost Uncirculated, just a little rub on the high points and attractive old toning. The lid opens although a bit stiff, and the hinges are damage free. As usual for these, a tiny bit of roughness at the top of the back lid from use – unless treated with exceptional care, and opening and closing action tends to produce minor damage, just based upon the design. Not terribly common and usually found broken or inoperative. An attractive piece.

This seller has enabled "Manual Invoice Approval" on their account. This means that after you complete checkout, you will NOT be automatically redirected to PayPal (if applicable) and will not be able to complete payment immediately. Instead, the seller will review the invoice and may, or may not, add or subtract additional charges, as explained in their policies and/or listing description. When the invoice is updated and approved by the seller, you will receive an automated email notification later, and you will be able to pay the updated invoice as you would normally.
All checks must clear prior to payment of purchase, which may take up to 12 Business days. IF YOU CHOOSE TO PURCHASE MULTIPLE ITEMS, PLEASE WAIT FOR AN INVOICE PRIOR TO PAYMENT. I combine all shipping charges to the minimum necessary to get purchases to the customer. Please be aware that the USPS has recently increased postage for package shipments and Insurance - $7-$9 for shipping may look like a lot, but it barely covers my actual cost. If you have any questions, just ask.
