1916-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar Fair/AG - 6 In Date Just Visible
Popular first year and better date1916-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar in the Fair to AG grade range. The 6 in the date is just visible and is the only piece of the date that I am able to discern. Fortunately it is the only digit you need to see in order to confirm the date of the coin as the obverse mint marks were only used for the first two striking year (1916 through the beginning of 1917).
Other than being well worn there are surprisingly few other issues to point out - no damage or rim bruises and the coin does not show any signs of harsh cleaning or other abuse
The coin in the photos is the exact coin you will receive.
When I look through the Raw Coin Listings for Walking Liberty Halves online, I would estimate 90% are over graded and half of those are WAY over graded. And I wont even discuss how many are cleaned or lightly cleaned that aren't even mentioned.
In addition to having 20+ years experience buying/selling and grading these coins, I have sent hundreds in to PCGS over the years, and have have a copy of Bruce Fox's Complete Guide to Walking Liberty Half Dollars and consult Photograde.
No coin can receive any level of a VG grade without having 2 Strong Full Rims. And without a Full, strong Obverse Rim, you can't get the 2nd level G grade. I will leave it at that.
