Given the current high price of silver, I think these coins should be revalued at a lower cost.
I dropped the price to $42.24, that is $14.08 per coin.
{ $17.61 per coin melt value as of 10-31-25 }
1920-S, 1944-D and 1943-D STANDING LIBERTY HALF DOLLARS
From the SAN JERONIMO collection of over 800 silver, nickel, and copper USA coins locked in a steel box in a machine shop for over fifty years. The box was bolted to the floor and closed with a ratchet-type lock that needed a "key" that nobody knew what it looked like those who did know were long ago gone.
I didn't want to cut the box open with a grinder. Still, I really didnt have a choice until I looked in the 'key hole' that was about 3/4" round and with one of those camera on a stick things saw that the key needed to be a triangle shape about one quater inch, we ground a 1/4" socket extension into a triangle shape and with a rachet wrench turned open the lock the owner had made in his machine shop.
None of these coins has been cleaned. These coins aren't special or rare or famous but it's an interesting story! Right?
