The San Francisco Mint struck more dimes this year than in any other since 1918. It was also the first coinage of dimes there since early in 1931. Though 1935-S dimes are fairly available in all grades through MS-66, only a small percentage possess Full Bands. The Census data is skewed toward such pieces, because they are more likely to be submitted in search of the coveted FB designation. In reality, most examples, though pleasingly lustrous, are weak at their centers. The Wexler/Flynn book on Mercury dimes lists three repunched mintmark varieties, but two of these are fairly minor.
