1953(P) cents are plentiful at the MS 65 and 66 RD grade level, but examples in the desired MS 67 RD grade are extremely rare. Like so many Philadelphia Mint cents and nickels of the 1950s, the color may be off a bit, with spotting and staining a common problem.

Aside from cud die breaks, which are more often classified as mint errors, there are no varieties of significance for this issue.

The Mint Director's Annual Report reveals that the cost of coining cents has fallen to just $1.03 per thousand. This is in stark contrast to recent years in which each piece costs more than a cent to produce.
