Bank Wrapped Roll BU Uncirculated Lincoln Wheat Cents
Bank Wrapped Roll 1955 BU/Uncirculated Lincoln Wheat Cents in old, faded light brown wrapper:
"Bank Of The Manhattan Company - 50 PENNIES
Sattley Company of New York, Inc.
Roll has never been opened by me.
As of the time of this listing I have 7 1955 OBW rolls. 4 match this paper and info. The other 3 are similar although lighter brick red colored paper and of the Detroit branch Of The Federal Reserve Bank
Roll is moderately tight. I have done A LOT of research on the topic. OBW Rolls are not supposed to be "hammer" tight. They were wrapped with one purpose - efficiency and usefulness in managing, transporting, and inventorying money (change) back from the 1930s-1970's primarily. They weren't concerned with making them super tight, nor did they have the same level of technology that we have today. Super tight rolls in fact, are actually a red flag. Batdorf rolling machines (the machines that created the "V" in the bank wrap) resulted in a nicely crimped roll but far from tight!
Of course, bank rolls are still used today, but the change within the rolls represented much more buying power 50+ years ago. Pennies were actually useful money then!
