1969-D Lincoln Memorial Cent PCGS MS66 RED
I submitted this coin almost 3 years ago with a handful of others carefully selected from original rolls. The only coins submitted were the finest from those rolls, coins with legitimate shots at a 67 grade (or finer). This one came back MS66 RED and is a gorgeous piece. Outstanding full mint bloom with great luster and unblemished, consistent cherry red color. Virtually contact mark-free, I struggle to find even the smallest blemish, nor can I detect any carbon spots. I still struggle to see what held this one back from the ultra gem 67 grade olther than the understanding of just how difficult it is to get to that level. I have compared this coin side by side with others in a 67 grade and I realize my inherent bias, but I really have found this coin to be superior in most of those instances. I have held back from selling this with the desire to send it back for reconsideration but the cost is higher than the risk so I will leave that with the next owner
PCGS Price Guide has this coin in MS66 at $36, $70 in 66+ and $325 in 67. Recent auction results are all over the place. The last 3 PCGS 66+ sold at auction for $67, $176 and $439 while the last 3 in 67 sold for $225, $270 and $1490.
67+ is Top Pop. There are only FOUR (4) coins in the top grade of 67+ so this coin is not far removed from the top level for this date and mint mark
