Item Description
General George Washington prepared his
troops to cross the Delaware River from
Pennsylvania into New Jersey. Stepping into
the boat, he asked the rotund General Henry
Knox to "shift that fat [arse], Harry, but slowly,
or you’ll swamp the [darned] boat." The troops
roared with laughter as they prepared for
"Victory or Death" in the Battle of Trenton in
1776.
Frederick Douglass can be called the father of
the civil rights movement. He was affectionately
known as The Sage of Cedar Hill, The Lion of
Anacostia, and Old Man Eloquent. His legacies
with The Underground Railroad, women's
suffrage, and abolition of slavery are hallmarks
of his vision and contributions to human rights.
