The America The Beautiful Series have been a wildly popular collector series since inception. These coins, also affectionately known as "hockey pucks" are larger versions (5 oz versions) of the 50 State Quarters and US Territories and National Parks Series.
The America The Beautiful Silver Coins are a series of bullion coins produced by the United States Mint. These coins are part of the broader America the Beautiful Quarters Program, authorized by the United States Congress 2008. The program's main objective is to honor national parks and other national sites in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the five U.S. territories.
America The Beautiful Silver Coins are struck in .999 fine silver and weight 5 troy ounces, making them larger and heavier than traditional silver bullion coins like the American Silver Eagle. The diameter of these coins is 3 inches (76.2 mm), and they have a reeded edge.
Each year since the program's inception in 2010, the United States Mint has released five new designs featuring different national parks or sites. This means that a total of 25 different designs are issued each year, reflecting the unique cultural, historical, and natural heritage of the United States. The reverse side of the coins depicts various landmarks, landscapes, or scenes associated with the selected sites.
On the obverse side of the America The Beautiful Silver Coins, the design features a portrait of George Washington, the first President of the United States. This design is based on John Flanagan's 1932 portrait, which has been used on the circulating quarter dollar since then.
