German East Africa 20 Heller 1916 T. This coin catalogs as Y-10a, J-724b, KM-15b/b. That translates as being the copper version with the small crown obverse and both of the L's in heller having the sharp pointed tips. The design is well centered but the strike is weak giving the coin a worn appearance. This coin is actually EF in my opinion. Looking at the coin's rim one can see that there is no obvious wear. When grading this historic type the rim is often the only way to seperate the worn coins from the weak strikes. The number 20 is actually stronger looking in person than what the scan shows and is the weakest part of the strike. These historic coins were minted using metal salvaged from the German Crusier SMS Koenigsberg. The Germans found that copper was harder to strike since it was more brittle than brass. Therefore the copper versions are scarcer than the brass.Price includes postage to any US address. Payment by check or money order only.
