Item Description

USA Coin Book Item ID Number:

This is a lot of two 1943-P WWII Steel Lincoln Cents in fabulous condition with virtually no signs of possible circulation. This is the only year the penny coins were minted with steel in a thin layer of zinc. In fact, it is the only US issue coin that will stick to a magnet.

The 1943 steel cent, also known as a Steel War Penny or Steelie (it's also a Wheatie), was a truly unique variety of the U.S. one-cent coin that was struck in steel due to wartime shortages of copper that was needed for essential items like ammunition. In fact, in 1944 the US mint shifted to using spent shell casings for its pennies. It used the same design that Victor David Brenner had made in 1909 for the copper Lincoln cent.

These are difficult to photograph but the images demonstrate the exact uncleaned lot you will receive with tracking after being carefully packaged. Several pictures are included for your evaluation. Thanks for looking!
