1884 Indian Cent

This is a phenomenally attractive 1884 Indian Cent in grade AU-55 which shows full detail on all the diamonds on the ribbon except for the second one from the top which shows one half of the original detail. The patina has a nice standard chocolate color that falls about halfway between crunch bar chocolate and dark hersey chocolate on the obverse. When you flip the coin over on the reverse this is where things get really interesting. The same color I just described for the obverse dominates the reverse around the rim and all other areas bordering the wreath. There are a few pockets around "ONE CENT" which show an original lighter tan color. My pictures of the reverse don't do the coin justice as they are lighter than the actually coin and do not fully show the nice contrast. This is an outstanding coin for an a high circulated grade or an AU/BU set of Indian Cents. One final word: if you do not know what strike doubling please take the time to look at the letters "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" on the obverse in my first obverse picture. You will notice how that some of the letters are doubled but the doubled part of the letters has a flat shelf like appearance that is similar to steps in a swimming pool or building. Then you notice that doubling does not appear anywhere else on this coin. Anytime you see this you are looking at strike doubling and it does NOT add value to a coin.
