hi.
i got this coin in a set so all those scratches are probably from over-polishing at the mint. they do not look like the normal scratches you see on a coin. it is mostly because i took some of these pics with too much lighting. you can see it more on the reverse, where one pic shows the scratches and in the other pic you don't notice them. i prefer to show them than to hide them.
there are no varieties on record for this coin. as you can see in pics, the yoke has doubling near the top of the bell and the bolts(?) across the yoke top are not supposed to be different sizes.
there is a possible clash on the right side of the moon but that could be bag wear. you can see the mint chip or piece of cud or whatever it is on the 2nd U of UNUM.
also, on the other issues of this coin that i view, i see the bottom point of the right star on the reverse is just slightly higher than the S of PLURIBUS and it is usually in line with the bottom of the S.. both of the stars are not sharp and pointy, when you look at the EPU, there is a spread to the west that is strongest on the PLU of PLURIBUS. the U looks notched on both sides and take notice of the upper east corners of all the letter PLURI.. if you look at the highest graded example of the coin on PCGS, an MS67, you can see the same spread on EPU but to a lesser degree. this really looks like a DDR nobody attributed yet.
on obverse, something is wrong with the ear, in that it is not flush left against his cheek. there is a gap which does not belong there. compare it to others.
i keep hearing about how clean and free of errors the 1976 special coins are but sometimes i think people hear that and do not bother to look.
