There were a few major varieties of the 1809 Capped Bust Half Dollar. This variety has a "Normal Edge" on the coin. All varieties feature the words "FIFTY CENTS OR HALF A DOLLAR" along the edge. The Normal Edge features the words but has a smooth surface between the words unlike the other varieties that have special markings between the words.
