One major variety is the 1881/0 Liberty Head $5 Gold Half Eagle. This variety features an 1881 date struck over an 1880 date (known as the 1 over 0 variety). Parts of the underlying "0" can be seen to the lower-right side of the last "1" in the 1881 date. There are also subtle parts of the underlying "188" just below the overdate - parts of the entire 1880 date can be seen.
