There were 2 major varieties of the 1873 $3 gold Indian princess coin. This variety features a "Closed 3" in the date on the reverse of the coin. There is narrower vertical spacing between the top and bottom ends of the number "3" in the 1873 date. This variety is also a bit more common than the "Open 3" variety - but still extremely rare and valuable.
