What This Coin Looks Like (Obverse, Reverse, Mint Mark Location, Special Features, etc.):
1866 With Motto Liberty Head $20 Gold Double Eagle - Twenty Dollars
1866 was a transitional year for the $20 Liberty Head Gold Double Eagle where the design on the reverse of the coin was changed to include the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" within the circle of stars above the eagle. Depicted above is the newer "With Motto" variety featuring the motto. The Philadelphia Mint never produced a "No Motto" variety - unlike the San Francisco Mint.
