What This Coin Looks Like (Obverse, Reverse, Mint Mark Location, Special Features, etc.): There were two major varieties of the 1873 Large Indian Princess Head Gold Dollar - specifically in regards to the styling of the number "3" in the 1873 date. The two ends on the left side of the "3" (top and bottom ends) are spaced more widely apart in the "Open 3" variety. However on the "Close 3" variety - the two ends are nearly touching each other with virtually no space between them. The difference between the 1873 Closed 3 vs Open 3 gold dollar is depicted above in the example comparison image.
