One major variety is the 1862/1 Silver Three Cent Piece Overdate Error. This error features the 1862 date struck over the 1861 date which resulted in part of the "1" being seen under the "2". One way to identify this coin is to notice a "hook" sticking down from the bottom-left side of the "2". Part of the "1" can sometimes be seen higher up within the "2" as well as depicted by the arrows in the example image of the coin above.
