1817 Capped Bust Half Dollar - 181.7 Punctuated Date
One major variety is the 1817 Capped Bust Half Dollar with a "Punctuated" date. This coin features a dot within the date which makes it look like 181.7 with a period between the 181 and 7. This was due to a defect in the die and was not part of the design. The dot appears much more clearly on earlier strikes of the coin. This feature is depicted above in the example image.
